At the upcoming CFDA  Awards, a major honor for Rick Owens will prove that you can stray off the beaten path and still be embraced by mainstream fashion. At the 2017 ceremony on June 5th, Owens, who is known for his radical runway shows and sculptural collections, will receive the Geoffrey Beene Lifetime Achievement Award. Raf Simons and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen are also poised to win big this year. All three designers are double nominees. The Olsens are up for Womenswear Designer of the Year and Accessories Designers of the Year.

Simons only recently unveiled his debut collection for Calvin Klein but already his work for the brand has got him competing  with the famous twins in the womenswear category, along with Marc Jacobs, Joseph Altuzarra, and Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez of Proenza Schouler. Simons is also up for Menswear Designer of the Year along with Robert Geller, Thom Browne, Tim Coppens and Todd Snyder.

While recent recipients of the fashion icon award have included music mega-stars Beyoncé, Rihanna and Pharrell, this year’s honor will go to one of fashion’s own – Franca Sozzani, the late editor-in-chief of Italian Vogue. In a nod to the feminist movement, Cecile Richards, Gloria Steinem, and Janelle Monáe will receive the Board of Director’s Tribute to acknowledging their tireless work and achievements on behalf of women around the world, and the powerful voice each had at the historic Women’s March.

In other CFDA Award news, the Swarovksi nominees have been merged into one category. The Swarkovski Award for Emerging Talent will now apply to womenswear, menswear, and accessories. Swarovski will also debut a new category – the Swarovski Award for Positive Change will be presented to Kenneth Cole.
