The Alex Noble collection is ‘Medieval warrior meets Roman Catholic icon’. The latter explained as the collection was inspired by the Powell and Pressburger film ‘The Black Narcissus.’ The themes of repressed femininity and change are represented on floor length layered skirts, digitally printed with illustrations of nuns and pattern inspired by butterfly cocoons. This imagery is mirrored in quilted fabric corset middles and cocoon-like fitted skirts. Kimono and Samurai inspired pieces have armour-like sculpted shoulders and medieval flared sleeves. Ruffled skirt detail and fabric bandanas complete the collection in burnt orange, cream, green and Prussian blue silks, satins and chiffons creating texture and structure.
