Alexander Wang’s runway shows are known for their hip and upbeat music which explains why he was chosen to be the first designer to work with Apple Music’s fashion channel. As one of fashion’s most popular tastemakers it makes sense that he was tapped to team up with the trendy music streaming service. For his collaboration, he has come up with 3 different playlists that Apple Music users can choose from. The playlists – CHILL, HYPE and VIBE – vary from R&B slow jams to up-tempo dance songs. Most of the artists found on the playlists, from Diplo, Steve Aoki, Rihanna to the The Weeknd, are friends of Wang and are regulars at his shows.
The HYPE playlist is a compilation of songs that have been used in past Alexander Wang runway shows. It features mainly bass driven electronic music like “Bring the Noize” by M.I.A. and dance music such as “Jungle Bae” by Skrillex and Diplo, which is one of Wang’s favorites that he says “we play every time we get out of the party bus at Coachella.” With songs like “As You Are” by The Weeknd and “Pour it Up” by Rihanna, CHILL is a great winding down playlist that Wang listens to when he gets home at the end of the day. The last playlist of the trio, VIBE is anything but laid back. For the VIBE playlist description, Alexander Wang says, “This list has many of my recent favorites like ‘Shabba’ by A$AP Ferg and ‘Down in the DM’ by Yo Gotti, which are basically club classics, but I also wanted to incorporate some of my slightly older favorites like in this genre like ‘House Party’ by Meek Mill and ‘Wild for the Night’ by A$ap Rocky, which is always a crowd pleaser.”
Since Apple Music’s launch in 2015, members have been getting exclusive access to over 30 million songs as well as albums only available through the service. For a reasonable membership fee, users have the opportunity to listen to any song of their choice without the hassle of paying for each song individually. Members are given the perks of being able to download any song from Apple Music into their personal library. Songs, albums and artists are collected based off the listener’s interests and is then compiled into playlists for them to listen to at anytime. Also, the radio tab allows users to listen to broadcasts and connect with their favorite artists and genres. Other fashion related curators that Apple Music has teamed up with are Made to Measure: M2M, Burberry and Dazed.
