Stoner babes and It-girls everywhere are going to be jonesing for Alexander Wang’s FW16 collection. On Saturday, February 13th, the designer held his fashion show at Saint Bartholomew’s, an ornate Byzantine-style church on Park Avenue. Despite the godly setting and some school-girl uniform vibes, the garments that Wang showcased on the runway were definitely unholy. The main motif of the collection was the weed leaf, an image that is nothing new in our current cannabis culture. However it was the way Wang displayed the pretty plant that made the pieces covetable. The designer used the motif on fuzzy jackets, skirts, purses, and most strikingly as lace cut-outs on dressier looks.
Marijuana wasn’t the only vice that Wang gave into with the collection. In a continuation of Pre-Fall, images of exotic dancers spun their way onto mohair sweaters and as a trouser print that was quite subtle for its stripper subject matter. Wang continued to show love for logos and slogans, accessories included tights and beanies embellished with the words, “strict,” “faded,” “tender,” and “girls.”
