On October 19th, Mercado Global hosted it’s annual Fashion Forward Gala at the Bowery Hotel in Manhattan. The fundraising event celebrates the power of fashion to change the lives of artisans and their families, empowering women to overcome poverty and become agents of change in their communities. The evening, which included a dinner, silent auction and dancing, honored Mary Alice Stephenson, founder of GLAM4GOOD, with the 2016 Fashion Forward Visionary Award.

Mercado’s mission supports artisans in Guatemala, rural indigenous women, who represent one of the world’s most marginalized populations. Mercado Global provides business education and leadership programs to help empower these women and connect them with large-scale sales opportunities so they can turn their skills into income with stores like Anthropology and Nordstrom to a special collaboration with Pamela Love.

Guests at the event included Ruth DeGolia (Mercado Founder), Mary Alice Stephenson (honoree), Alexis Bittar, Zoe Silverman (ASTR), Yaz Hernandez, Donna D’Cruz, Claudia Mason as well as The Untitled Magazine‘s editor-in-chief, Indira Cesarine.
