This year the newest addition to the Art Basel roster is Art Basel Hong Kong, “the city where East meets West.” From May 23 – May 26 the art fair will take over the Asian art world. It will specialize in new artwork that is produced all over Asia and the Asia Pacific, as well as featuring other major international artists. All artistic mediums can be discovered in these exhibits as well as designs and themes unique to the city.
Founded in 1970, the Art Basel Modern and Contemporary Art shows, held annually in Basel, Miami Beach, and Hong Kong, serve to nurture, develop and help promote artists of the visual sphere. In addition to doing so, the show itself seeks to evolve each year by expanding its platform and finding innovative new ideas to attract the world’s leading gallery owners and collectors. Art Basel has been called, “the place where art meets.”
“The show’s four exhibition sectors are designed to present an exceptional selection of works, including museum-quality pieces by proven masters and new artworks by emerging artists. Additional exhibitions and events, timed to coincide with Art Basel’s Hong Kong debut, will take place across the city’s thriving gallery scene and in its growing array of cultural institutions.”
