Bernard Chandran’s Spring/Summer 2013 collection at London Fashion Week focused on what the designer called “the rough edges of a close friend’s love tale,” focusing on the powerful woman’s triumph over heartbreak. The collection was chic and sporty, featuring triangle patterns and zebra prints, and playing largely with geometry—a familiar theme this year. The shimmering fabrics used in these outfits brought out the make-up and painted lines on the models faces, making the show feel like it emerged from a singular vision. However the dress that stood out the most barely had any shine at all. It was a black and white triangle piece with a translucent center extending towards the abdomen. For a line that played with such vastly striking fabrics, it was a testament to Chandran’s brilliance that the statement piece was also the quietest.
