With every new video off of her latest album, Art Angels, Claire Boucher AKA Grimes has proved that she is a master at meshing the worlds of sight and sound. Now, with a new interactive installation at upcoming festival, Moogfest, the techno popstar has taken things a step further. “Realiti – Inside the Music of Grimes” is an interactive experience that will allow visitors to actually step into Boucher’s single, “REALiTi,” by using Microsoft Kinect motion sensing technology. As festival goers move through the installation, Kinect will allow them to manipulate the music through physical interaction. “Realiti” will be divided into four different zones that correspond to a different part of the song. Whether people are executing precise dance moves or a simple head bob, 22 difference speakers and colorful lights will enable the music to change according to each individual’s body movements.
Moogfest is an annual festival, held from May 19-22, in Durham, North Carolina that bills itself as a “synthesis of music, art, and technology” and is named for Robert Moog, the pioneering inventor of the Moog synthesizer. As a setting dedicated to technological advancement in electronic music, there couldn’t be a better place for Grimes to give fans a taste of her “Realiti.”
