Updated July 26th – H&M has announced that their next designer collaboration will be with French fashion house, Kenzo. A short teaser video of the collection was released in May and this week, three photographs were debuted that feature colorful looks from the collection shown on Juliana Huxtable, Amy Sall, Ono Embombo, and Isamaya Ffrench.  Items are expected to hit stores on November 3rd. Creative directors Carol Lim and Humberto Leon expressed their excitement for working with the popular retailer amongst their other big projects. In between debuting their recent spring collection and running Open Ceremony, Lim and Leon have been working on their fun, vibrant collection for H&M. If  the success of past H&M collaborations with Versace, Isabel Marant, Karl Lagerfeld, and of course Balmain are any indication, the Kenzo collection is sure to be a hit offering, especially since Lim and Leon are bringing their refreshing energy and excitement to the table.

Speaking on the collaboration, the designers expressed their inspiration for the brand, stating. “We wanted to really tell the story of the brand and of us. Together with H&M, we will invite all the costumers and fans to the real Kenzo world.” The original designer, Kenzo Takada moved to Paris from Japan and held his first show in 1972 and continued to design up until his last show debuted in 1999. As the company expanded, menswear and perfume were added to the Kenzo brand. Fast forwarding to 2011, new kids on the block, Carol Lim and Humberto Leon became the creative directors of the Kenzo house and solidified their status as designers on the rise. Of the two, H&M announced, “Carol Lim and Humberto Leon have set their own fashion agenda with collections full of bold colors and vivid prints, revealed through high-impact shows, artist collaborations and creative digital campaigns.” These California natives have definitely brought a new style to the brand by collaborating tradition and their global influences from their time spent in New York and Hong Kong.

Based off the multicolor, jungle themed video, the collection will be filled with fun vibrant prints similar to the Kenzo “Jungle Book” collection released back in April. Expect to see women and men’s clothing with the classic Kenzo tiger on many of the pieces as well as the enlarged logo plastered on everything from t-shirts to bags as well as funky accessories. The collection will allow a larger audience the opportunity to experience the brand. The line will launch in 250 H&M stores and online.
