Party for a cause at the fifth annual Global Citizen Festival on September 24th in Central Park. This year’s lineup features headlining shows by Rihanna, Kendrick Lamar, Selena Gomez, Major Lazer, and Metallica. The event also has several high-profile “special guest performances” scheduled from Usher, Eddie Vedder, Ellie Goulding, Yusuf/Cat Stevens, and Chris Martin (who has signed on to curate the event for 15 years). Chelsea Handler, Hugh Jackman & Deborra-lee, Seth Meyers, Neil Patrick Harris, and Salma Hayek have all been slated to host.
Although a limited number of VIP tickets are on sale for Global Citizen most attendees get in for free by completing different actions that then earn points to be entered into a ticket lottery. Actions are centered around combating different world challenges and range from tweeting world leaders to showing support for the Refugee Olympic Team. Ticket lotteries are every two weeks until the date of the festival. Each lottery launches a new campaign for a social cause.
Since the first Global Citizen Festival, more than 6.5 million actions have been taken to help improve the lives of people all around the world. This week’s campaign is #GlobalHunger, so head over to the website and do your part in ending food scarcity and malnutrition. Your small action may help enact big change in the world AND score you a front row seat to one of the coolest concerts of the year.
