February 14th marked the day that Shayne Oliver got his brand, Hood by Air, into the center of conversation for Fashion Week. At the start of the show Beyoncé’s newest single, “Formation,” blasted through the speakers, setting a strong vibe for the collection. On the runway, models broke through the barriers of typical gender rules. Some of the male models sported patent leather, heeled, thigh high boots, while female models rocked androgynous oversized jackets. This notion tied in with the collection title, “Pilgrimage,” which communicated the concept of transmigration through fashion. Going along with the theme, each model had a bar code baggage tag incorporated into their outfit to represent themselves as pieces of cargo. One of the most noted looks was the classic puffer style jacket transformed into patent leather and held open and proud by Russian LGBT activist, Slava Molgutin.
