Sensational Swedish pop duo Icona Pop have announced their new single “Girlfriend,” an exciting release from their forthcoming debut album. This upbeat track borrows the famous lyrics “All I need in this life of sin, Is me and my girlfriend!” from the chorus of Tupac’s 1996 release “Me and My Girlfriend.” Their last single “I Love It” featuring Charlie XCX has already bumped Icona Pop’s Aino Jawo and Caroline Hjelt to the top of international music charts. Unlike the vengeful and edgy themes of “I Love It,” their new single evokes friendship and celebration – a feel-good hit just in time for the summer.

In a recent interview for The Untitled Magazine‘s Music Issue 6 with Editor-in-Chief Indira Cesarine, the self described “romantic rebels” Icona Pop stated, “you have to try and be different. We’re not afraid of dreaming big.” With inspiration coming from their travels, favorite movies and ’90s music, Icona Pop have exploded onto the scene with their high energy. After meeting at a party in 2010, the pair became fast friends and decided to form a band. They haven’t slowed since. “We just sat down with wine and our laptops, and we never discussed what kind of music we should write. Within two days, [we] had our first gig.” Look out for their debut full-length album, slated for release in the upcoming months.
