Jason Wu‘s oh- so- feminine duds have been through the white house and the power retailer Target. Now he’s introducing his contemporary line, Miss Wu to a department store. Partnering up with Nordstrom, the New York designer’s junior line will be sold exclusively at their stores this January.

According to an interview with Women’s Wear Daily, the designer says he always looked at Jason Wu (the collection) as his aesthetic, Miss Wu is his personality. “It was really fun to explore that facet of who I am — slightly more downtown, and with a more relaxed attitude”, says the designer. Miss Wu, named after Wu’s emblem – a hand drawn owl, is a far cry from a tacky imitation of his catwalk pieces. Wu told Women’s Wear Daily that instead of just doing ‘Jason Wu-for-less,’ he wanted to explore the other side of himself. He went on to say it wasn’t until he collaborated with Target, he then saw there was a demand for Jason Wu at a different price point. Although a more affordable line, the prices range from $195 to $795 (Nothing like his Target line, which ranged from $19.99 to $59.99).

It will be sold exclusively in 49  Nordstrom stores across the country and nordstrom.com for the first year. After the lines one year contract is over, the brand will expand its offerings to other retailers. “The first two seasons are based solely on ready-to-wear,” says Wu. “By 2014, we plan to have accessories.” Taking inspiration from the 60’s with images of Jane Birkin and Marianne Faithful, the very feminine line entails of a 40- piece lineup. Featuring enchanting prints, textured shifts, A-line dresses, and mini skirts (Just to name a few highlights).

Although there are only a few images out from the line, the designer is giving us much to look forward to.
