LA VIE BY JI CHENG – LONDON F/W 2012 FASHION SHOW
The award winning Chinese designer Ji Cheng held her debut AW 12 collection for the very first time in Europe at London Fashion Week. Held at Vauxhall Fashion Scout, La Vie by Ji Cheng’s highly anticipated “Zen Awakening” collection displayed traditional craftsmanship with contemporary silhouettes and materials.
The collection uses Ji Cheng’s design philosophy which combines Chinese chic with sophisticated and contemporary tailoring. A real display of where East meets West, ji Cheng created garments that held the essence of minimalist Chinese dress adding layers that allowed silk and cotton materials to flow and form to the body. Waist defining silhouettes were seen throughout with asymmetrical wrap around ties. Floor length dresses dominated the collection, with a colour palette or oranges, creams, and black, finishing the show with a silver metallic mini.
Cheng is one of China’s leading designers and influencers trained at Istituto Marangoni in Milan and has worked at Missoni Sport and D’A as designer and visual director. In 2002, Ji Cheng founded her eponymous label, La Vie by Ji Cheng.
Since 2002, Cheng has shown at Nokia Complete Fashion event in China and Thailand, Singapore International Fashion Week and China Fashion Week. In 2006, Ji Cheng was selected as one of China’s most sought-after fashion designers and took part in the documentary entitled “Growing China” produced by the New York Times. In 2011, Ji Cheng debuted her Haute Couture Collection Red Candle at Shanghai Fashion Week as well as her ready –to- wear collection, The Embroidery Lady.
Ji Cheng’s success in the West will be one to watch this year after her first show to European media and buyers.
