The annual Musuem of Contemporary Art (MOCA) Gala was held on May 31st, presented by Louis Vuitton. This gala highlighted L.A. art scene at the downtown L.A. Geffen Contemporary Space. This year, they honored longtime museum partner John Baldesseri, in which he commented, “When I moved to Los Angeles, I was talking to someone and I asked, ‘What’s a gala?’ And they said, ‘No, that’s gay-la. My attitude is, I was hoping we could have Louis Armstrong play in the background and you say ‘po-tay-to’ and I say ‘po-tah-to.’”
This was the debut of the current exhibition Trinket, a collection of large-scale installations, performances, and sculpture by William Pope. L.
Many famous faces showed up to the event, such as Janelle Monae, Dita Von Teese, Shepard Fairey, Marisa Tomei, and Roseanna & Patricia Arquette. Below are some highlights from the event:
