On December 16th, a private musical tribute to Lou Reed took place at the Apollo Theater in New York City. Reed’s widow Laurie Anderson organized the event and was joined in celebrating her late husband by Paul Simon, Patti Smith, Debbie Harry, Philip Glass, Emily Haines, and former Velvet Underground drummer Maureen Tucker, among many others. The musicians in attendance sang some of Reed’s most popular hits: “White Light, White Heat”, “Perfect Day”, and “Pale Blue Eyes” while a short clip of the 1980 film “One Trick Pony” starring Reed and Paul Simon was shown. Though Anderson asked that there be no crying, tears still fell.
