WATCH NATALIA KILLS LIVE PERFORMANCE AT THE BOX IN CELEBRATION OF THE UNTITLED MAGAZINE “MUSIC” ISSUE 6
On May 8, 2013 The Untitled Magazine celebrated the launch of the latest issue, The Music Issue 6, at The Box NYC. From 8pm – midnight, the event featured performances by Starred and Early Morning Rebel, who were featured in the issue, as well as cover star Natalia Kills. Natalia performed several songs for the first time live from her forthcoming album, Trouble, including “Saturday Night” and “Boys Don’t Cry” as featured in the video.
The english born musician, who performs under the moniker Natalia Kills, has been in show business since the age of 9, when she made her acting debut on the British sitcom All About Me. She attended the London Academy of Music And Dramatic Arts, and, at the age of 14 began writing and performing music. In 2003 she won a Radio 1 MC battle in Leeds, under the name Candy Rapper, and soon went on to write and self-produce her first album, Wommanequin, which reached the top of the Unsigned Artist chart. She migrated to LA, where she was approached by industry professionals of every ilk, though she held off on signing a deal until she was persuaded by will.i.am, to join onto his label, will.i.am Music Group.
Her last album, Perfectionist, was inspired by her rocky past. “…When it all fell apart… after my dad went to jail and I moved out, I had joined a religious group and then got a boyfriend, trying to be a grown-up and find security in something. It turned out to be more like a cult, and it really messed with my perspective on everything, so when the boy broke my heart and treated me badly I just snapped.”
Her heartache only fueled her music further. “I only write about my own experiences … I go back and confront what a mess I made of my life and all the bad things that happened to me. When I can write about the bad times, and then fly around the world and be on the cover of magazines because of those songs, it’s like turning the worst moments of my life into the best ones!”
Noted as one of the musicians to watch in 2013, do not miss her latest single, “Problem”, and her second album, Trouble, due this year on Cherrytree and Interscope Records. Other singles out from the album include “Trouble” as well as “Feel Myself” which was leaked on April 23. Rumored collaborations on the album include Charlie XCX, will.i.am, and Angel Haze.
