PHILLIP PLEIN’S STATEMENT AGAINST RACISM IN FASHION

German designer Phillip Plein has released his Spring/Summer 2014 ad campaign featuring an exclusive all-black cast of models. The campaign follows a similar casting at his recent women’s fashion show in Milan. Plein hasn’t necessarily been quiet about his stance on the lack of diversity in the fashion industry – he has openly stated that it’s the ‘responsibility of designers to spread messages through fashion’.

Plein isn’t the only designer to make a statement about diversity – Givenchy recently casted Erykah Badu as the new face of their brand, and Prada chose a black model for their Fall ad campaign earlier this year, making it their first campaign since 1994 to feature a model of color.
