If a youth revolt ever happens, Maxwell Osborne and Dao-Yi Chow will be ready to outfit the renegade troops. On June 8th during New York Fashion Week, their Public School runway show echoed the dystopian themes of their edgy DKNY presentation. But while DKNY’s looks were futuristic, the SS’17 Public School collection seemed to be a comment on today. Patches were emblazoned with “WNL,” short for “We Need Leaders.” Models in layered utilitarian garb walked in front of a backdrop of faceless workers hammering away at cinder blocks. Save for one dress, looks were layered with jackets, drapey shirts, baggie trousers, and slashed skirts – perfect for the revolutionary who has to flee with only the clothes on their back.
