Saint Laurent FW16

Saint Laurent took New York fashion week to the West Coast – Los Angeles to be exact – on February 11, 2016. At the Palladium Concert Hall on Sunset Boulevard, Hedi Slimane brought a full mens collection, part I of a women’s collection, and a handful of celebrities to his beloved city for a night to remember. Among the audience at the star-speckled concert hall were Justin Bieber, Lady Gaga, Ellen DeGeneres, Sam Smith, Courtney Love, Jane Fonda, and Lenny Kravitz to name a few. The atmosphere of the venue and the line itself, were reminiscent of the 70s rock ‘n’ roll vibe that Saint Laurent has successfully made it’s own for years and years.

Slimane’s studio has been in LA since 2008 and it’s clear that the city has made it’s mark on his collections. With punk details, whimsical vintage energy, and gold detailed fabrics, the collection was inspired by the 50th anniversary of Yves Saint Laurent’s Rive Gauche collection. Women wore calf-grazing culottes and dresses, while men accompanied in slim cut suits. Made of deep velvets, fabrics coated in silver shine, leather accents, and bowed blouses, the collection was a vintage-looking treasure chest with a modern cool-kid aesthetic. Touches of cheetah print, the occasional fedora, and wide belts added to the 70s flair. After Slimane’s bow, the guests were in for a treat: 11 artists performed, including Joan Jett herself. As always, Saint Laurent kept it rock ‘n’ roll through and through.
