Hedi Slimane took the fashion world back to the 80’s with his Fall/Winter 2016 collection for Saint Laurent, shown on March 7 during Paris Fashion Week. Trends from the 80’s have been used in previous seasons by various designers, but Slimane put a modern twist on the pieces while also paying tribute to Yves Saint Laurent’s classic styles. Even the venue was a throw back. Set in an 18th century house on Rue de l’Université, models walked down a winding staircase rather than a runway, while their look numbers were called. High, dramatic shoulders, side bows, belted waists, sequins, and bubble skirts filled the collection. Slicked hair, sheer black tights, and red lipstick completed each look. Two outerwear styles from the collection appeared to stand out from the rest. The first was a black, ostrich-feathered jacket with turquoise and pink tips that was styled over a high neck, fitted, silver sequined dress cinched with a metallic gold belt. The other was the final look of the show: a red fox fur, heart shaped cape over a black ruched party dress cinched with a metallic silver belt. These pieces seemed to really captured the glamorous modernized 80’s vibe.
