‘Leave the World Behind,’ the aptly titled farewell documentary that travels with DJs Swedish House Mafia on their final tour, makes its public debut in the US this week, hitting select cinemas across the country for a special one-night presentation. From producer Jonas Akerlund (Madonna,”Ray of Light”; Lady Gaga, “Telephone”; Christina Aguilera, “Beautiful”) and director by Christian Larson, the documentary follows band members Axwell, Steve Angello, and Sebastian Ingrosso as they travel the world on the largest worldwide electronic music tour in history. With over 1,000,000 tickets sold worldwide in just one week, they had reached the peak of success – yet, ironically, this tour marked their last moments together as a band.
The film premiered at South by Southwest earlier this month to mixed reviews. Loved by electronic music fans, the film is visually captivating and highly effective in capturing the essence of the dance music scene and life as a world-class DJ. Yet for those seeking more depth, it leaves questions unanswered. Sure, there might be some disagreements. A little too much partying. Even a little malaise. But many might walk away still wondering why such an adored and successful group would choose to end it – before it’s even really begun.
