THE FEATURES and Serpents and Snakes / BMG proudly announce the May 14th release of their new self-titled album. The bands fourth full-length follows on the heels of their most recent record Wilderness, which SPIN described as “commanding, spewing volcanic rock with a dramatic flourish, then holding your attention by revealing a deceptively sophisticated wit.” To preview the forthcoming material, the band has released the single “This Disorder” to fans. This spring they journey to Austin, TX for SXSW, and will support the album with North American tour dates TBA.

The Nashville based four-piece took a dramatic change of pace when it came to recording The Features, spending a spontaneous few weeks in Vancouver, WA outside of Portland at the cabin-esque confines of Ripcord Studios. Unlike on past albums where songs had been worked out on the road in front of crowds, only a few of the songs pegged for The Features had been played live, and several were still works-in-progress when the band arrived in Vancouver. “I don’t think we really had any expectations,” says band frontman Matthew Pelham, “we just thought, ‘lets do it differently.'” He and his band mates – keyboardist Mark Bond, bassist Roger Dabbs, and drummer Rollum Haas – were game to shake things up.

The result is The Features most inventive and assured album to date. With no time for second guessing, they embraced a slew of previously untapped sonics and styles, veering from serene synth-pop and classic new wave, to proto-metal riffage Bowie-styled soul. After more than a decade making music together Pelham speaks of the confidence the band have developed in themselves as musicians and song-writers. “We started out really young, all of us, and we had no idea where we were going and what we wanted to do.” But now, he says, “I think we have a more solid idea of what we want the band to be.”
