THINKING OF MABEL’S NEW SINGLE

Everyone’s been talking about British pop artist Mabel and her rise to music stardom. The 20-year-old musician already has multiple nominations, a tour with electronic group Years & Years and major festival performances, including the 2016 Glastonbury Festival, under her belt. In mid-June Mabel created a music video for the opening of the new Tate Modern building and its installation of Gustav Metzger’s “Liquid Crystal Environment” that featured the special track “Talk About Forever.”

On June 28th, Mabel released her new single “Thinking Of You” on iTunes and Spotify with a fun, 90’s R&B-inspired music video. The Destiny’s Child influences are clear as Mabel sings “Try to forget about you, with no chance. I wasn’t looking for romance…” on stairwells and while driving and strolling with her friends through the city. The catchy, soulful track details missing someone and having that person constantly on your mind. Mabel also is hinting at missing home or a place where you feel most comfortable. The lyrics definitely hit a nerve for millennials dealing with moving away from home and trying to work out their complicated relationships. “Relationships with cities are similar to relationships with people, being away from both can really make you appreciate what you have,” said Mabel of the track.

Mabel is singer Neneh Cherry‘s youngest daughter and this cherry surely didn’t fall far from the tree. Her mother’s riveting voice, spunky attitude and hip hop flare have definitely rubbed off on the upcoming artist. The young singer doesn’t seem to be slowing down, and we’ll be hearing more of her in the coming months.
