VALENTINO – MILAN F/W 2012 FASHION SHOW
Maria Grazia Chiuri and Pier Paolo Picciolo designed a Fall 2012 collection for the house of Valentino that despite its very haute couture trappings, took inspiration from common folk costumes. The collection projected an aura of international travel and sophistication, by drawing from various cultures and locals, including Pasolini’s Medea and women in native dress from film, fashion editorials, and real life. Pieces included artisanal details such as embroidering in a vaguely Russian or Greek motif, woven jacquard that imitated Oriental carpet, and macramé and passementerie detailing. Despite the collections rustic origins, the result was supremely luxurious and ultra-feminine, and projected a romantic atmosphere.
