Donatella Versace’s Fall 2012 collection for the house of Versace, drew from her brother’s final collection, which marked a dark, modern turning point for the label, and brought it into the present day taking it in a gothic, sepulchral direction.  The collection amplified the gothic elements, using crucifixes on accessories and in patterns, and creating severe monochrome looks in black, neon orange and yellow.  The looks featured seamed and studded leather, long-sleeve, tight-throat coat dresses, chain mail, and armor like corsets.  The outfits evoked a female armor that protected the wearer and seemed to reference Rooney Mara’s character in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.  The collection was styled with Mara approved hair and makeup, with Pat McGrath’s heavily black-rimmed eyes and hair that Guido Palau called, “fugly fringe.”
