VIOLENT FEMMES GET ANIMATED WITH NEW TRACK, “MEMORY”

violentfemmes_memory

On March 7, 2016, the Violent Femmes debuted their first single, “Memory”, from their new album, WE CAN DO ANYTHING, through Record Store Day. A huge fan of the band, Australian video director Harley Hefford, used collage-style animation to create this video. It tells the story of a giraffe (inspired by the album’s artwork) reminiscing with band members Gordon Gano and Brian Ritchie about made-up stories from their past. Their new album was released three days prior, March 4th, and the Femmes also confirmed  North American dates for their upcoming world tour. It kicks off May 2nd in Salt Lake City, Utah at The Depot and then travels the west coast through out the month.

For the release of their new album, the band made their first live network TV appearance in over a decade on CBS’ Late Show with Stephen Colbert. They performed “Memory” and also their iconic hit, “Blister in the Sun” with Colbert on vocals. Colbert’s performance went viral and was even the #1 trending topic on Facebook the day it was released.

“Memory” is on it’s way to becoming a fan favorite Femmes song, getting played on many college radio stations and other alternative media platforms. Currently, the band is touring Australia and New Zealand through March. Check out the video for memory here and look below for the announced list of their 2016 North American Tour!
