In the fashion world, The Met Gala is widely known as the event of the year. Gaining entrance onto the coveted red carpet gives all of those who enter fair game to dress in the most eccentric pieces of couture that they can find. More times than not, though, many miss the mark or completely ignore the dress code altogether! This year saw reigning Met red carpet queen Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta absolutely stealing the show for the third year in a row. We also got to see newcomers Selena Gomez, Kendall Jenner, and Allison Williams enter the scene in what can be considered some of the most underwhelming looks of the night. With so many guests at the event, meaning so many looks to categorize, The Untitled Magazine has narrowed our red carpet recap down into four categories which are as followed…
Best Dressed: The Met Gala gives women (and some men) the ability to dress in clothing that they never in their wildest dreams would imagine wearing as a child. For Sarah Jessica Parker, the carpet is a walk in the park as she is given ample opportunity to choose from a slew of designers across the board. This year, we were loved Karolina Kurkova in Marchesa, Suki Waterhouse in Burberry, Sarah Jessica Parker in Oscar de la Renta, Blake Lively in Gucci, Jessica Pare in Michael Kors, Zoe Saldana in Michael Kors, Chloe Grace Moretz in Chanel, Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen in Vintage Chanel, Beyonce in Givenchy, and Dita von Teese in Zac Posen.
Underwhelming: Sometimes invitations go missing or are skimmed just to see the date of the event – in the case of this year’s event, the following ladies clearly didn’t get the memo about the dress code! Yes, gowns were suggested and yes, 9 out of 10 of these women wore gowns but the dresses were so underwhelming that we almost fell asleep! We have hopes that the following ladies will step it up next year: Leighton Meester in Pucci, Hailee Steinfeld in Prabal Gurung, Rosie Huntington Whitley in Balmain, Allison Williams in Oscar de la Renta, Jessica Alba in Diane von Furstenberg, Olivia Munn in Diane von Furstenberg, Rachel McAdams in Ralph Lauren, Anna Kendrick in J. Mendel, Kendall Jenner in TopShop, Selena Gomez in Diane von Furstenberg.
Best Dressed Couples: Love was in the air in New York City last night. Some of the chicest couples in fashion and entertainment graced us with their presence and they did not disappoint. Power couple Victoria and David Beckham looked crisp and clean in matching white, while Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka brought eccentric looks to the carpet. We adored Chrissy Teigen and John Legend, Jay Z and Beyonce, Neil Patrick Harris and David Burtka, David and Victoria Beckham, Kim Kardashian and Kanye West.
Worst Dressed: There’s underwhelming and then there’s bad. Some of these looks might have been categorized as ‘best dressed’ in the weeks before the event, but last night they fell completely flat of any visual appeal. For example, while we love Emma Stone, she looked as though she should be vacationing in Miami rather than wow-ing us on the red carpet. Whether it be the stylist’s fault (if these women even used a stylist at all), or just a simple lack of taste, the following looks had us covering our eyes… Kate Upton in Dolce & Gabbana, Solange Knowles in 3.1 Philip Lim, Lupita Nyong’o in Prada, Rita Ora in Donna Karan, Lena Dunham in Giambattista Valli, Michelle Williams in Louis Vuitton, Donatella Versace in Versus Versace, Kristen Stewart in Chanel, Lea Michele in Altuzarra, Emma Stone in Thakoon.
