Alexander McQueen designer Sarah Burton, haute couture milliner Philip Treacy, and Saudi fashion retailer HRH Princess Reema Bandar Al-Saud were the three honored guests at this year’s Academy of Art University‘s Graduation Fashion Show and Awards Ceremony, receiving honorary degrees from the college. The ceremony was prefaced by a week of events and discussion panels, including a fashion symposium with Burton and Treacy, a luxury presentation by Princess Reema, and a hat presentation by Treacy. Students were also given classroom visits by fashion journalist luminaries Suzy Menkes, the fashion editor of the International Herald Tribune, Cathy Horyn, fashion critic for The New York Times, Stephan Rabimov, editor in chief of DEPESHA, and Jayne Seward, fashion editor of Apparel News. The festivities were concluded on May 3 with a presentation of fashion shows put on by this year’s graduates from the San Francisco fashion university. The week of visitors and events allowed graduating fashion students the chance to mingle with key influencers and designers, giving them a jump start as they head into their new post-collegiate careers.
