Once again, Miami Beach became the epicenter of the art world as Art Basel Miami returned in full force for its 2024 edition under the leadership of new director Bridget Finn. Art Basel Miami featured 286 galleries from 38 countries, with approximately two-thirds representing the Americas, and attracted over 75,000 attendees, including prominent collectors and art patrons from around the globe.

Exhibitors reported strong sales across various market segments, placing works by renowned artists such as Pablo Picasso, Georg Baselitz, Robert Rauschenberg, Jean Dubuffet, and emerging talents into esteemed public and private collections. The fair also welcomed representatives from more than 230 prestigious museums and foundations worldwide, including the Museum of Modern Art in New York, Tate in London, and the Zeitz Museum of Contemporary Art Africa in Cape Town.

Under Finn’s direction, the fair introduced 34 new galleries—the largest addition in over a decade—and unveiled innovative exhibition concepts across its six sectors. Notably, the Meridians sector, dedicated to monumental artworks, was reconfigured without walls in a new location, fostering dialogue and discovery among attendees. Curated by Yasmil Raymond, Meridians showcased 17 significant projects by artists such as Alice Aycock, Roberto Huarcaya, and Zhu Jinshi.

The Conversations program, curated by Kimberly Bradley, achieved record attendance and featured discussions with influential figures like Iranian American artist Shirin Neshat. Additionally, the City of Miami Beach’s Legacy Purchase Program acquired Nina Surel’s ceramic installation “Allegory of Florida” (2023), which is now permanently displayed at the Miami Beach Convention Center.

Bridget Finn expressed pride in the fair’s innovations, stating, “I am extremely proud of the innovations we introduced this year… galleries presented truly ambitious, rare, and, in some cases, career- and canon-defining proposals, which have been placed in first-rate collections and sparked significant future conversations for the art world.”

Art Basel Miami Beach 2024 not only celebrated artistic excellence but also strengthened its cultural impact, leaving a lasting legacy in the art community.
