Emotionally honest singer/songwriter, Billie Eilish released two tracks, “TV” and “The 30th” on July 21st, 2022 under the bundled single, “Guitar Songs.” The chilling vibrations of Eilish’s vocals echo the bold, haunting lyrics over an acoustic background. Fans were ecstatic to see “TV” released, after Eilish performed it live in the U.K. during her Happier Than Ever world tour. Eilish stated she and her brother/producer, Finneas were thrilled to finally release the songs, as they shed a personal perspective on her life experiences through candor songwriting.

“Finneas and I really wanted these to be yours as soon as possible. So here they are!! Performing ‘TV’ on tour was such a highlight for us too, so we took the audio from the first night we played it in Manchester and put it in the song. I get shivers every time I hear it. Hope you love the songs and thank you for letting us share our music with you.” – Billie Eilish

The first track, “TV” mixes delicate acoustics with the hushed, whisper-like tone of Eilish’s vocals. The lyrics feel heavy, a home recording vibe intertwined with lyrics that describe feelings of losing grip, even touching on the recent events in America. Eilish felt the urgency to release the song as it mentions Roe v. Wade and vulnerable feelings of the past year; a relatable emotion the world can connect with.

“The internet’s gone wild watching movie stars on trial while they’re overturning Roe v. Wade.” – “TV”

The second track, “The 30th” recounts a traumatic, personal memory Eilish experienced on November 30th. Eilish explains how she immediately called Finneas to piece together a song. The track carries an intense build-up, as the brother and sister duo are skilled in the powerful technique at this point in their career. The track is the first one to be written since her album, Happier Than Ever, and feels similar to her first album: intimate, authentic, and always vulnerable.

Eilish prefers home recordings over studio recordings, she tells Apple Music’s Zane Lowe. “Guitar Strings” embodies just that, a nostalgic throwback to her younger days where Finneas would strum the guitar in their bedroom, creating masterpieces on stained carpet and worn mattresses.

“I really have never liked the vibe of studios. There’s no windows. It smells like weed. There’s other artists there. You bump into them, you look stupid, then you’re embarrassed…” – Billie Eilish

Eilish will continue to happily haunt the world with her songwriting and chill-provoking vocals, as she and Finneas are already working on a third album. There is no doubt that Eilish will keep expanding her infamous, rule-breaking music career.
