Iconic fashion house Dior presented their menswear show in Miami on December 3rd, to an enthusiastic audience. Celebrities such as Bella Hadid, Travis Scott and Kim Kardashian were among those fortunate enough to get an invite to experience the show’s fusion of art, culture, fashion, and music. Artistic director Kim Jones brought surfwear giant Shawn Stussy out of retirement to create a colorful pre-fall collection complete with funky prints and eclectic florals, giving a nod to Miami’s rich fashion history and influence. Jones, a longtime fan of the hypebeast staple Air Jordan 1,  also introduced a collab with Nike to create a luxury version of the sneaker. The AirDior AJ1 is set to hit the market in April 2020, along with the rest of the menswear collection.

Jones is known for bringing hyped-up streetwear influence into luxury houses, starting with his collaboration with Supreme when he was the menswear designer for Louis Vuitton under Marc Jacobs’ creative direction in 2017. His work at Dior began the following year with a premier summer collection, including baseball caps, high-top sneakers, leather jackets, re-imagined suits, and backpacks. This season’s collection was made for Miami with surf-inspired bucket hats, logo-covered sweaters, and saddle-bags in festival-ready prints. Some have speculated that Jones’ act of bringing in Stussy seemed to be a ploy for the same amount of attention he got with the Supreme collab, but the highly-skilled designer insists that’s not the case. “When something becomes as iconic as that, it’s in the culture, and culture is what I’m interested in,” he stated in an interview.
