If every girl dreams of being a princess in a storybook than Dolce and Gabbana made those hopes come true. The ultimate fantasy was created with their Fall/Winter 2016 collection, shown on February 28th in Milan. The designers, inspired by both old and new fairy tales, constructed the #DGFabulousFantasy, which wound up trending on social media. In this collection Stefano Gabbana and Domenico Dolce found ways to make some of their signature pieces new again.
The show started with looks from the ultimate princess classic, Cinderella, but rather than opening with a baby blue number, it was Prince Charming in feminine form opening the show. The storybook references continued throughout the show. There were enough military-styled pieces, whether it be a dress or jacket, plus the added appeal of solider patches, to create an entire army from The Nutcracker.
Big florals, bright colors, and sparkly sequins made for collection standouts. Houndstooth and tweed patterns were used in jackets and dresses to create a 1940s vibe, which big buttons and embroidery gave a focus to the details. Dolce and Gabbana ended with fabulously frocked army in glittering dresses, making the collection as accessible as ever to a younger generation. Why would you want to be a classic princess, when Dolce and Gabbana made the modern ones look so good?
