19-year-old producer Yndi Ferreira, better known as Dream Koala, has just dropped the breathtaking visuals for his dreamy single, “Odyssey.” Inspired by death, journey, and the fears of Greek heroes, “Odyssey” is dark and resigned–a combination of repressed, frightened vocals and lyrics sung over spaced-out guitar and minimal percussion which progresses cautiously over an ethereal soundscape. The visuals fit perfectly while simultaneously exceeding any expectations you may have had, spanning shots of buildings and sculptures in various states of decay, shots of flowers and wilderness, surreal landscapes, falling embers, and, straight from Ferreira’s dream, a crashed plane. The video was created by Adrien Peze and Albin Merle and was inspired by American film director Terrence Malick, Japanese film director Hayao Miyazaki and French artist and cartoonist Jean Giraud.
Dream Koala is performing with Telepopmusik and Betty Black at Cameo Gallery (Brooklyn) on October 19 (tickets here) and with Telepopmusik and Yuksek as a free show at Le Bain (Manhattan) on October 20. Both shows are part of the ongoing CMJ Music Marathon.
