The GEORGINE fall/winter collection debuted at The Gallery at Skylight Lincoln Center on February 16. Inspired by the work of The Brother Grimm, the collection highlighted the struggle between the good and evil found in fairytales while re-imagining the traditional princesses, heroes, and villains. Designer Georgine Ratelband, questioned, “What would Cinderella wear to a ball in this day and age?”
The answer: dark lipstick, cool-girl glasses, sassy high-neck blouses, and leather accents complimenting a feminine strength. Though the collection started out sweet, with bubblegum pink pieces and detailed embroidery, the evening wear was a sexy take on a royal ball. Sheer black gowns and skin were at the forefront, showing viewers that the princess is the fairytale has grown up a bit since Disney’s debut.
