Last week, Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week took over Sydney to showcase the Resort 2019 collections of Australia’s best and brightest designers. We’ve rounded up three standout shows of the week including Alice McCall, Camilla and Marc and Double Rainbouu.
McCall’s playful design sensibility is apparent in her latest collection. For Resort 2019, Alice McCall offered a selection of flirty, feminine party frocks in sheer and floral fabrics. Though some of the pieces are too revealing for the everyday woman, the majority of McCall’s collection is perfect for a yacht soiree, garden party or summertime opening.
Camilla and Marc
Camilla Freeman-Topper and Marc Freeman set their 15th-anniversary collection against a dystopian desert outfitted with gargantuan rocks and sand. The collection included a sprawling range of garments including tailored jackets, shiny lurex separates, oversized leather handbags and sleek skinny pants. Some of the ensembles seemed a bit too inspired by fashion’s craze for Balenciaga (see: the long-sleeved, turtlenecked maxi dresses and checked blazers with oversized shoulders and sleeves), but overall, the collection seamlessly infused wearable, flattering silhouettes with a cool streetwear sensibility.
Just two years after their fashion week debut, Mikey Nolan and Toby Jones have expanded Double Rainbouu’s offerings to include denim, swimwear, shoes and sunglasses. Their mix of mens and womenswear for Resort 2019 featured psychedelic prints, workwear-inspired separates, vacation-ready streetwear staples like hoodies and sweatpants printed with “DOUBLE RAINBOUU LEISURE INDUSTRY” and mesh tank-tops and dresses suited for poolside lounging.
