The Untitled Space welcomed a full house on June 25th for the opening reception of “WOMEN OF WATER, WOMEN OF EARTH,” the debut solo exhibition in the United States by internationally acclaimed photographer, filmmaker, and environmental artist Natalie Karpushenko. The evening brought together the artist, curator Indira Cesarine, collectors, curators, artists, members of New York’s creative community, and supporters of the arts to celebrate Karpushenko’s first major presentation in the American market.

The exhibition, on view through July 17, marks a significant milestone in the artist’s career following years of international recognition across Europe, Asia, Australia, and beyond. Presented by The Untitled Space after Karpushenko was selected as the recipient of the gallery’s 2026 Solo Exhibition Open Call Award, the exhibition introduces American audiences to a body of work centered on the relationship between women and the natural world.

Guests filled the Tribeca gallery throughout the evening, creating a lively atmosphere as they explored Karpushenko’s immersive photographic works. The reception drew a diverse audience from across New York’s arts and creative communities, including artists, curators, collectors, photographers, writers, and cultural supporters, reflecting the excitement surrounding the artist’s long-awaited U.S. debut. Conversations continued throughout the evening as visitors engaged with the artist about the stories behind her images and the experiences that have shaped her practice.

Karpushenko attended the reception alongside curator and The Untitled Space founder Indira Cesarine, welcoming guests and discussing the inspiration behind the exhibition. As an avid freediver and ocean conservation advocate, Karpushenko has spent years photographing in remote marine environments, creating imagery that reflects both personal transformation and ecological interconnectedness. Her photographs invite viewers to reconsider their relationship with the ecosystems that sustain life while celebrating the beauty and resilience of the natural world.

The exhibition features works spanning Karpushenko’s ongoing exploration of women within elemental landscapes, presenting photographs that blur the boundaries between reality and myth. Across oceans, forests, rivers, and deserts, women emerge not simply as subjects within nature, but as extensions of it, embodying its rhythms, vulnerability, and power. Created entirely in natural environments without AI-generated imagery or digital manipulation, the works reflect the artist’s commitment to authenticity while encouraging a deeper connection with the natural world.

Speaking about the exhibition, curator Indira Cesarine shared: “I am thrilled to introduce Natalie Karpushenko’s award-winning photographic art to the American market with her debut solo exhibition at The Untitled Space. Through breathtaking imagery that bridges the worlds of nature, humanity, and imagination, Karpushenko has developed a distinctive visual language that resonates across cultures. Over the past decade, Karpushenko has exhibited internationally with solo exhibitions in Italy, Indonesia, South Korea, and Kazakhstan, while her work has appeared in publications including Vogue France, Vogue Germany, Harper’s Bazaar, Nowness, Beautiful Bizarre Magazine, Forbes Russia, and Esquire. In 2025, her film “Water Drop” was presented at Lincoln Center in New York, further expanding her multidisciplinary practice.

The enthusiastic turnout for the opening reception underscored the anticipation surrounding Karpushenko’s American debut, with collectors, artists, and cultural figures responding to the exhibition’s exploration of environmental awareness and humanity’s relationship with the natural world.
