Trust the ‘enfant terrible’ to pull off one of the most raucous shows of the week. Viva Le Discotheque, was Jean Paul Gaultier’s message as models danced down his runway smoking, sipping champagne, carrying their high heels and high fiving each other.
The setting of the show was a reinterpretation of the infamous 1980s Paris nightclub Le Palace, the one-time haunt of Grace Jones, Mick Jagger, Andy Warhol, and others who rolled amongst that creative group.
The collection was a mash up of Annie Hall-esque silhouettes of masculine trousers, slouchy shirts, and wide ties, hotel bellboy uniforms executed in silk and sequins, and sexy Bianca Jagger-inspired smoking suits.
Fittingly, one-time Le Palace regulars and muses of their generation Amanda Lear and Farida Khelfa sat front row for JPG’s show, clapping, laughing and singing along to the music.
