Jean Paul Gaultier is one of the definitive names in unique and alternative couture, and his Spring 2013 line was no different. Each model that strutted down the catwalk was dressed as a selection of the decade’s most notable musicians. Everyone from Annie Lennox to Boy George to Grace Jones to the Material Girl herself were referenced in a series of outfits that served more as a retrospective of style in theory than the creation of simple style for the season. The pieces were a nice escape from the more repetitive elements of fashion week, but still showed a strong eye for black gowns, angular cuts and unique fabrics that were intermixed with catchy accessories. A stand-out was the David Bowie inspired / Ziggy Stardust one-legged jumpsuit. The combination of iconic references of legendary music persona made for one of the most performance oriented runway collections during Paris Fashion week.
