For his Spring/Summer 2013 Men’s collection, John Varvatos wanted to incorporate the idea of a youthful elegance, making sophisticated, traditional designs palatable to even today’s modern man. Varvatos described his collection, saying, “I mixed a sense of dress-up with touches of my very own perfect imperfection and I added a dash of the military. The play of juxtapositions gives a nonchalant twist, yet everything looks proper on the surface. This is a collection thought out for men who want to be dressed up but not stiff.” The collection features precisely tailored, traditional suit silhouettes that recall gangsters from the prohibition era with pocket squares, double-breasted blazers, and wide-brimmed fedoras. The looks are kept from being too period, however, thanks to modern cool touches such as pinstripes of varying widths, leather totes with studs and zipper and ribbon detailing. John Varvatos Spring/Summer 2013 collection manages to look sophisticated and put together while also being slightly undone with Varvatos’s signature splash of rock’n’roll.
