On of Australia’s most buzz worthy performers, Tkay Maidza, recently released “Carry On,” a new song featuring Killer Mike of Run The Jewels. The brazen track is the first official single off of the-20-year-old’s forthcoming self-titled debut, TKAY, which will have its global release next month on October 28th. The rising pop star had a lot to say about her collaboration with Killer Mike, which came after admiring the rapper from afar. She stated:
“The song is about people trying to stop my stride but I guess what I’m trying to say is I have bigger issues that only matter to me as a youngin’ at this point in my career and Killer Mike is reinforcing that. I’ve loved Run the Jewels for ages as they were the first act I saw at my favourite touring festival Laneway Festival. It was super inspiring to see them. We had the idea of having him on a song and reached out to his team, they were totally down. It turned out to be ‘Carry On’. ” -Tkay Maidza
The Zimbabwe-born singer was recently nominated for Best International Act at the 2016 BET Awards and also was featured on Martin Solveig’s hit single, “Do It Right.” She also has toured with Years & Years, Mark Ronson, and Charli XCX, who was featured in The Untitled Magazine’s #GirlPower Issue.
