Madonna has had many memorable moments in the recent past (including Monday’s Met Gala) but a forthcoming biopic will have everyone remembering the Madge of yesteryear. The movie will focus on the Queen of Pop’s career beginnings in the early 1980s when she was just another star seeker in NYC. As of now the title of the film is Blond Ambition and comes from a screenplay of the same name. Written by Elyse Hollander, the script captured the attention of Hollywood players after it topped the 2016 edition of the ‘Black List,’ the industry’s ranking of the best un-produced screenplays. Universal has picked up the project along with well known producers Brett Ratner and Michael De Luca.
One person who hasn’t signed on for Blond Ambition? Madonna, herself. In fact, the superstar singer has very strong feelings against the idea of the film being made and has taken to Instagram to express her disapproval. While her rejection could make it much harder to make the biopic, it won’t necessarily halt production. Madonna didn’t write many of her first big singles, including “Holiday,” “Crazy for You,” “Borderline,” “Like a Virgin,” “Material Girl” and “Dress You Up,” and as such does not control the copyright so they could still be used in the upcoming movie.
We’ll have to wait and see if the wrath of M can stop the making of Blond Ambition. Watch this space for updates.
