MAISON MARGIELA – PARIS – FALL/WINTER 2016 FASHION SHOW

In a season full of Magpie mash-ups, John Galliano led the pack. At Paris Fashion Week, on March 2nd, the Maison Margiela runway was a grand display of Galliano’s mastery of the clothing remix.  The pirate-meets-everything aesthetic that the designer is best known for was at full force in this collection and although he did not comment on the clothes (it’s the Margiela way), there was no explanation needed. A disco dress danced with a clover cape and glittery green platforms that made perfect accessories for a most glamorous St. Paddy’s day. Aprons became focal pieces and sweaters were deconstructed and then put back together in an artistry of assemblage. Although it was easy to get distracted by the layers upon layers, when looks were dissected there were very wearable elements at play. One of this season’s favorites, the sequin maxi skirt, made a zigzag appearance while bomber jackets and military inspired coats were quite covetable throughout the collection.
