“Missoni, Art, Colour” Exhibition
London Fashion and Textile Museum
83 Bermondsey St, London SE1 3XF, United Kingdom
May 6, 2016 to September 4, 2016
The London Fashion and Textile Museum has announced an exciting new exhibition titled “Missoni, Art, Colour,” in partnership with The Woolmark Company, that will open on May 6, 2016. Organized by the MA*GA Art Museum, the exhibition was previously in Gallarate, Italy from April 19, 2015 through January 24, 2016.
The exhibition explores the influence of 20th century European art on the fashion and textile designs of Ottavio and Rosita Missoni, who have created one of the most well-known Italian fashion houses in the world. The exhibition will include over 40 paintings by European artists from the 20th century, who have influenced famous fashion brand Missoni. Many of the pieces were pulled from private collections and Italian museums, making them first timers on UK soil.

The exhibition is curated by Luciano Caramel, Art Critic and Historian who has served as commissioner of the Venice Biennale and the Rome Quadriennale, Luca Missoni, Artistic Director of the Missoni Archive and Emma Zanella, Director of MA*GA Art Museum and Contemporary Art Historian and Museologist.
Some artists on display at the exhibition are Gino Severini, Lucio Fontana and Sonia Delaunay. The exhibition will also showcase a large selection of looks by Rosita Missoni and Angela Missoni dating back to 1953. Many of Missoni’s distinct looks on display are made of merino wool, a long standing favorite textile of the Missoni family.
