Five years following the release of their debut album, Moderat (Modeselektor + Apparat) are set to release their sophomore record, II, on August 6th via Mute (and Monkeytown overseas). In support of this new record and their upcoming North American tour, Moderat are sharing a visual representation of their creative process and freedom to morph and mutate via a series of small Dadaistic experiments which are being realized with the help of skilled scientists, specialists and DDB Tribal Berlin. We are now excited to present the third project from the Moderat Experiment series – your personal analog-meets-digital live experience.

The idea for the “Fog Machine” Experiment is to release the fog into the Moderat live micro projection box and enjoy an audio snippet from II along with mesmerizing logo animations provided by Moderat’s visual partner, Pfadfinderei. This is activated by you and broadcast to the world via the Moderat website –

The opportunity to activate this experiment is limited due to its physical nature – only one fan can activate the micro projection box at a time, and in turn bring Moderat’s music and visuals to life. This experiment will be available daily for fans to enjoy for a limited time.

Moderat is currently working on a new live show for their upcoming tour. Together with their long-time friends and visual artists collective Pfadfinderei, they are aiming to change the idea of what a live performance is. Usually, the best place to experience a show is from the front or near the center of the venue, however, Moderat and Pfadfinderei want to create an experience where different, interesting things happen at various places throughout the venue. Experience this live come August 28th in select cities in North America.
