Opening reception: June 8th, 10pm
June 8th – November 15, 2015
After opening its doors on June 8th, On Park Avenue, the Marlborough Gallery’s public art exhibit featuring Santiago Calatrava is still underway. The exhibit, which began with an exclusive tour, will conclude in mid-November.
Santiago, in collaboration with NYC Parks and Fund for Park Avenue has unveiled seven red, black, and silver painted, aluminum sculptures installed along the central median of Park Avenue, in between 52nd and 55th Street.
Santiago Calatrava is a Spanish architect, engineer, and artist who seeks to explore expressive forms and structures abstracted from nature through his work. Pushing the boundaries between sculptural art and architecture, his work has been shown in a variety of museums and galleries including the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York and the Vatican Museum in Rome. Within each sculpture, Santiago implies a sense of elevation and “spiritual uplifting.”
