The 88th Academy Awards, held on Sunday, February 28th in Los Angeles, California, was a night filled with Oscar firsts and big wins. Host, Chris Rock, took on the subject of the controversy over lack of racial diversity and the Oscar Boycott in style. In pure comedic fashion he made light of an intense situation and had the attendees applauding his jokes. Some other notable moments included Vice President, Joe Biden, asking people to pledge to speak out against rape before introducing Lady Gaga’s heartfelt performance of ‘Til It Happens to You’ featuring a tribe of survivors in the background. The top winners of the night included Brie Larson fro Best Actress in a Leading Role, Leonardo DiCaprio for Best Actor, Alicia Vikander for Best Supporting Actress and Spotlight, which won Best Picture.
