Oversized Shoulders and Strong Silhouettes

The power shoulder is making a significant comeback, with designers embracing exaggerated proportions to create striking, confident looks. Oversized shoulders are appearing on blazers, blouses, and even formal wear, offering a modern take on the classic ’80s power dressing. This trend is not just about shoulder pads; it’s about creating a statuesque figure through structured designs that emphasize the upper body. The look is versatile, working well in both professional and casual settings, adding a touch of drama to everyday outfits.

Mix of Prints and Luxurious Fabrics

Fashion in 2025 is celebrating eclecticism with a maximalist approach to prints and materials. Designers are drawing inspiration from rich ornamentation and the faded grandeur of domestic interiors, resulting in a luxurious mix of textures and patterns. This trend is characterized by layering and mismatched clothing, hobo bags, fur scarves and floral tapestries, etc. This  season also showcased a harmonious blend of timeless elegance and cutting-edge design. This fusion is evident in collections that combine elements such as architectural precision, hyper-feminine details and bold color palettes inspired by iconic film characters.

Revival of 1950s-Inspired Elements

The fashion world is experiencing a resurgence of 1950s-inspired styles, reinterpreted for the modern era. This trend reflects a renewed interest in traditional femininity, though it also raises questions about the societal implications of such a revival. This trend can be found through the use of long skirts, corsets and bows, and hourglass silhouettes.

Impact and Reception

Paris Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2025 attracted a star-studded audience, with celebrities and influencers filling the front rows. The event not only set the tone for the upcoming fashion season but also reflected broader societal themes, addressing issues of identity, sustainability, and the role of fashion in uncertain times.

As the fashion world looks ahead to the Spring/Summer 2026 season, the Fall/Winter 2025 collections have left an indelible mark, showcasing the enduring creativity and resilience of the fashion industry in the face of global challenges.

Louis Vuitton

Louis Vuitton’s Fall/Winter 2025 collection at Paris Fashion Week was a spectacular showcase of innovation, nostalgia, and the art of travel. Creative director Nicolas Ghesquière transformed the venue into a bustling Parisian train station, setting the stage for a metaphoric journey through time and style. The collection masterfully blended elements from the past and future, creating a harmonious fusion of timeless elegance and avant-garde design. Oversized garments, intricate layering, and asymmetrical cuts were prominent features, offering a fresh take on modern luxury. The color palette evolved from bold, clashing patterns to rich autumnal hues, mirroring the excitement and transformation of a traveler’s journey.

Saint Laurent

Anthony Vaccarello’s Saint Laurent collection provided a glamorous finale to the week, set against the backdrop of the iconic Eiffel Tower. The show featured strong-shouldered silhouettes, bold prints, and confident bomber jackets, with supermodel Bella Hadid gracing the runway. Vaccarello’s vision emphasized simplicity in silhouettes, focusing on precise construction and pure forms rather than excessive ornamentation.

Chanel

The final ready-to-wear collection by Chanel‘s in-house design team before Matthieu Blazy’s upcoming debut revisited house signatures such as bows, ribbons, pearls, and flowers. The collection played with proportions and drew inspiration from fairytales, creating a whimsical yet sophisticated aesthetic. The show took place at the Grand Palais, featuring a monumental 65-foot black ribbon sculpture designed by Willo Perron, which set the stage for the collection’s theme

Dior

Maria Grazia Chiuri’s ready-to-wear collection for Dior blended the brand’s heritage with contemporary designs. Iconic elements like the J’adore Dior t-shirt and lace collars were reimagined alongside fluid silhouettes, celebrating femininity and self-expression. Dior presented a captivating blend of historical references and contemporary design. The collection drew inspiration from Virginia Woolf’s novel “Orlando,” a story that transcends time and gender. This influence was evident in the designs that challenged gender stereotypes and celebrated the evolution of fashion through different eras. Chiuri aimed to demonstrate how clothing can be a vessel for cultural, aesthetic, and social expression.

Miu Miu

Miuccia Prada’s “Femininities” collection for Miu Miu addressed current societal tensions with confidence. The designs featured everyday pieces elevated through bold gestures of femininity, incorporating jewels and furs to add complexity and value to each look. The collection featured an abundance of traditionally feminine elements, including large gold brooches, layered gilded bracelets, glimmering tennis necklaces, and chunky fur shrugs. Garments were manipulated to create curves independent of the wearer’s body shape. Coats featured surreal structures, baggy on top and tight at the waist, reimagining outerwear silhouettes. Miuccia Prada aimed to use femininity as a way to “lift us up” during difficult times, creating clothing that could “help in difficult moments, during really dangerous times, war times”.

Vivienne Westwood

The collection paid homage to Vivienne Westwood‘s punk heritage while embracing contemporary elegance. Kronthaler masterfully blended 16th-century Italian artistry with modern design, creating a unique “punk renaissance” aesthetic. The runway showcased a harmonious mix of rebellious elements and refined tailoring, with exaggerated silhouettes reminiscent of Renaissance fashion tailored to contemporary tastes.
