At the young age of nineteen, songstress, social media superstar, and Untitled Magazine featured artist, Pia Mia Perez, has been crowned the first fashion director for Madonna’s Material Girl brand at Macy’s. Although the two have yet to officially meet, Madonna had this to say about why she chose Perez as the fashion director: “Her creativity, confidence and unique sense of style make her a perfect addition to the brand.”
Pia Mia joins the ranks of previous musical artists tapped by Material Girl including Zendaya, Taylor Momsen, Rita Ora, and Kelly Osbourne. However, her role will include much more work. Along with being the face of ad campaigns and making public appearances at Macy’s stores, Perez will be putting her creative input into the collections starting with Spring 2017. To promote the brand further, Material Girl has partnered with StyleHaul to produce a six episode docu-series about Perez’s life with the brand. The idea for the series was inspired by Madonna’s 1991 documentary, Truth or Dare. So far, footage has been shot of Perez in design meetings at Macy’s headquarters in New York and on location for the Fall 2016 campaign shoot at The Madonna Inn in California. In every episode, Perez will wear pieces from the collection. Episode pages and her Instagram will provide viewers with links to buy featured items immediately.
Although Miss Perez is young, she is set to make quite an impression on the music and fashion worlds. When she was only 17, she sat down with The Untitled Magazine for an exclusive interview with editor-in-chief Indira Cesarine to talk about getting her start in music, navigating YouTube, and what it was like to grow up in Guam. Now, only two years later, she has a lot to look forward to. On top of being the fashion director at Material Girl, she has been recording new music and will release a single and full album in the near future. She was also just featured on the track, “Boys & Girls,” by Will.I.AM.
