Opening Ceremony has partnered with Rihanna and UK high-street retailer River Island for the global launch of Rihanna for River Island on March 5th. To celebrate the arrival of the collection at Opening Ceremony, Rihanna and Opening Ceremony curated an exhibition of seven outfits to display in the Opening Ceremony New York flagship store at 35 Howard Street. The RIHtrospective exhibition will remain in the shop for three weeks. This exclusive collection will be available only at River Island stores, at Opening Ceremony in New York, Los Angeles, and Tokyo, and online through both retailers.

The selection of looks in the RIHtrospective spans from red carpet to stage appearances, and aligns with the significance of the number 7, which references Rihanna’s past 7 years winning 7 Grammy and 7 Billboard awards, releasing her 7th album, Unapologetic, and chartering a Delta Boeing 777 plane for her infamous 777 Tour, which comprised 7 shows in 7 countries over 7 days.

Rihanna’s stylist Mel Ottenberg says, “Opening Ceremony is my favorite store for Rihanna, so it’s perfect that the Rihanna for River Island collection will be available there. The clothes are fresh and cool for the girls of New York, LA and Tokyo that share Rihanna’s cool, relaxed style. I’m excited to see girls rocking these clothes around town.”

The opening event in New York featured some standout pieces, including a dress made entirely of army style “dog tags”, which was highly 60’s inspired and based off the dress she wore for her Loud Tour designed by Jeremy Scott. Another notable look was the Bob Marley inspired dress originally designed by Adam Selman for her appearance on Saturday Night Live. The collection is highly affordable, $45 for the Knot Front Camisole, $150 for High Neck Slash Back Maxi Dress, and maxing out at $350 for the Varsity Jacket with Leather Sleeves.

Notable attendees at the Opening Ceremony event included Adam Selman, Mel Ottenberg, pop star Natalia Kills, Kilo Kish, Kitty Kash, Maluca Mala and DJ A$AP J. Scoot, as well as The Untitled’s Editor in Chief Indira Cesarine and beauty editor Roberto Morelli.

The Rihanna for River Island Spring/Summer 2013 collection was designed by the pop icon in collaboration with the UK brand, and will be available at Opening Ceremony’s New York, Ace Hotel, Los Angeles, and Tokyo stores and online at www.openingceremony.us. A second summer delivery will follow at River Island and Opening Ceremony in May.
